Hybrid cloud migration for a Chicago logistics company
A Chicago-based logistics company running aging hardware and operating systems in a colocation facility wanted out of owning hardware, on a tight timeline. Storcom designed a hybrid cloud on the Storcom Private Cloud, tied in 20 remote sites, and let the team test its full application stack first. The cutover finished on a Sunday morning in under four hours.

The challenge
The company’s IT infrastructure in its colocation facility was aging, and it no longer wanted to be in the business of owning and maintaining hardware.
It wanted the control and security of a private cloud.
Time was short. Both the hardware and the operating systems were aging out, and the company needed a managed services provider agile enough to move quickly with minimal downtime.
What Storcom did
Preventing downtime was the top requirement, and business-critical applications had specific needs to address across architecture, implementation and operations.
We built a hybrid cloud infrastructure covering the company’s compute, storage and networking needs, running on VMware vSphere and VMware vCloud Director with Zerto Virtual Replication.
The migration plan let the company fully test its application stack before cutover.
We tied 20 remote sites into the network.
The outcome
- Cutover completed on a Sunday morning in less than four hours.
- Higher uptime, performance and stability since the move to the Storcom Private Cloud.
- Room to scale up or out for application projects such as rolling out a new ERP system.
- Storcom works as an extension of the IT department, so internal staff can focus on more strategic work.
