Backup

Off-site Veeam backups you can prove will restore

Veeam cloud backup sends copies of your Veeam backups to an off-site repository run by a service provider, so a fire, hardware failure or ransomware attack on site doesn’t take your backups with it. Storcom provides the off-site repository, keeps copies immutable, tests restores and reports results, while your team keeps the Veeam console.

How does Veeam cloud backup work?

  1. Connect

Your Veeam Backup & Replication server adds a Storcom-run cloud repository as a service provider target, the Veeam Cloud Connect model. Traffic is encrypted and no new backup software is needed.

  2. Copy

Backup copy jobs send restore points off-site on the schedule you set. Backup files can be encrypted with a password only your team holds.

  3. Protect

Off-site copies stay immutable for their retention period, so a compromised backup server or admin account can’t delete your last good backup.

  4. Test and report

Storcom restores from the off-site copies on a schedule and sends you a report: what was tested, how long it took and anything that failed.

What Storcom handles

  • Repository sizing

The off-site repository is sized to your retention policy and growth, and adjusted as you add workloads.

  • Immutable copies

Copies locked for their full retention period, so ransomware or a stolen login can’t erase them.

  • Long-term retention on object storage

Older restore points tier to S3-compatible object storage through Veeam’s Scale-Out Backup Repository, so years of history don’t fill performance storage.

  • Job follow-up

Off-site copy jobs are watched, and failures are followed up with your team instead of sitting in an inbox.

  • Licensing your way

Use the Veeam licenses you already own, or license Veeam through Storcom.

Is your Veeam setup ready for a ransomware event?

Attackers look for backups before they encrypt anything. Check your environment against these.

  • At least one backup copy is off-site and outside your Active Directory domain
  • At least one copy is immutable for its full retention period
  • Backup files are encrypted, and the password isn’t stored only on the backup server
  • Access to the backup console needs MFA and credentials separate from everyday admin accounts
  • A restore of a critical VM has been tested in the last quarter
  • Someone is alerted when a job fails, and acts on it

Who uses Veeam cloud backup

Teams use it to retire tape rotation and courier pickups, to add the off-site copy an auditor or cyber insurer asks about, and to extend retention without buying more on-site storage.

If some systems need to be running again in minutes rather than restored over hours, pair backup with DRaaS for Veeam. It replicates critical VMs so they can start in a recovery site, while cloud backup keeps protecting everything else and holding long-term history.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need to change our Veeam setup to use Storcom cloud backup?

No. You add the Storcom repository as an off-site target in the Veeam Backup & Replication console you already run and create backup copy jobs to it. Your local backups and existing jobs stay as they are.

Is our backup data encrypted?

Yes. Data is encrypted in transit, and Veeam lets you encrypt backup files with a password your team holds. Store that password somewhere other than the backup server, because the backups cannot be restored without it.

What makes the off-site copies immutable?

Immutable copies are locked for their retention period, so they can’t be changed or deleted, even by someone with valid admin credentials. That protects your last good backup if ransomware or an attacker reaches your backup server.

How do restores from the cloud repository work?

You restore from the Veeam console, whether that is a single file, a VM or a full job. Large restores are limited by your internet bandwidth, so Storcom sizes and tests that during design and you know the real restore time before you need it.

What if some systems need faster recovery than a restore allows?

Use DRaaS for Veeam for the systems that cannot wait. It replicates critical VMs so they can start in a recovery site, while cloud backup keeps protecting everything else and holding long-term history.
