Managed IT services

Your infrastructure, run by a team that answers for it

Managed IT services hand the day-to-day running of infrastructure to a provider under an agreed service level. Storcom monitors, patches, tests and supports your servers, storage, virtualization, network, backup and security tooling around the clock, on your premises, in colocation or in our private cloud, so a small IT team is not on call for everything.

What are managed IT services?

A managed service is an ongoing agreement, not a project. You keep ownership of decisions and priorities. The provider takes on the recurring operational work, reports on it, and is accountable to a written service level.

Storcom has delivered managed services for more than 20 years from Geneva, Illinois. The work centers on infrastructure: the servers, storage, hypervisors, networks, backups and security tools that everything else depends on.

What Storcom manages

  • Security tooling

Managed EDR, continuous risk scanning and escalation of what needs your attention.

  • Servers and virtualization

Health monitoring, firmware and patching for physical servers and hypervisors, including VMware vSphere and its alternatives.

  • Storage

Capacity, performance and support for arrays from Dell, HPE, Everpure and IBM, with refreshes planned before support ends.

  • Network and firewall

Monitoring, firmware, policy changes and reporting for switching, wireless and perimeter firewalls.

  • Backup and recovery

Job monitoring, immutable off-site copies and scheduled recovery tests with a written report.

  • Cloud resources

Azure and AWS resources and the Storcom hosted private cloud, with cost reporting.

  • Colocation

Space, power and connectivity for equipment you own, managed by the same team.

Most customers co-manage: their team keeps user support and applications, and Storcom runs the infrastructure underneath.

How does onboarding work?

  1. Discover

A discovery call, then a review of what is in support and what is not.

  2. Stabilize

We fix what is causing outages first: failed backups, unpatched systems, hardware past end of support.

  3. Document

Runbooks, escalation paths and the service level, written down and agreed.

  4. Operate

Monitoring, patching, testing and regular reviews with a named point of contact.

What does it look like in practice?

A Chicago manufacturer of commercial LED lighting came to Storcom after repeated outages and data loss. Storcom took over managed services for the on-premises and disaster recovery site infrastructure. Over the following three years the repeated outages and data loss stopped.

An Illinois charter school district moved to hyperconverged infrastructure in Storcom colocation with failover. A national healthcare solutions company with a small staff relied on Storcom to manage its full stack, and later moved to dedicated Storcom private cloud hardware. The full write-ups are in our case studies.

Frequently asked questions

What is included in Storcom managed IT services?

Monitoring, patching, recovery testing and 24×7×365 support for the infrastructure you choose to hand over: servers, virtualization, storage, network, firewalls, backup, security tooling and cloud resources. The scope and service level are written into the agreement.

Do we have to hand over everything?

No. Most customers co-manage. You can start with one area, such as backup and recovery or firewalls, and add others later. Your team keeps control of decisions and priorities.

Where does Storcom deliver managed services?

Storcom is based in Geneva, Illinois, and serves organizations across Chicagoland and the United States. Monitoring and support are delivered remotely, and engineers go on site when a deployment or repair needs it.

What is the difference between managed IT and consulting?

Consulting is a defined engagement that ends with a plan or a completed project. Managed IT is an ongoing service with a service level. Many customers use both: a consulting engagement to design the change, then managed services to run the result.
