What the current FlashSystem generation brings
IBM announced the FlashSystem 5600, 7600 and 9600 on February 10, 2026, replacing the 5300, 7300 and 9500. Features vary by model and software level.
FlashSystem.ai
New with this generation: AI agents that IBM describes as co-administrators, with a natural-language assistant in the management interface that helps with routine administration and audit documentation.
FlashCore Module 5
IBM’s fifth-generation NVMe flash modules, from 6.6 TB up to 105.6 TB on the 9600, compress data inline and encrypt it at rest in hardware. They also collect statistics on every I/O, which feeds the array’s ransomware detection.
Ransomware threat detection
IBM states that FlashCore Module 5 detects ransomware in under a minute, based on IBM’s own testing, and puts 60-second detection and alerting under a guarantee in IBM Storage Assurance. Your team hears about an attack from the array, not from users with locked files.
Safeguarded Copy
Immutable point-in-time snapshots, taken on a schedule you set, that hosts can’t see and no one can change or delete until retention expires. They give you a clean copy to restore from after an attack.
IBM Storage Virtualize
The software that runs every FlashSystem. It provides HyperSwap active-active storage across two sites, remote replication and data reduction pools, and it can virtualize many existing arrays, including other manufacturers’, so data moves onto the new system without downtime.
IBM Storage Insights
IBM’s cloud-based monitoring for IBM storage. It tracks capacity, performance and health, alerts on problems early, and makes support cases with IBM faster to open and work.
Which FlashSystem model fits your environment?
Every current model runs the same IBM Storage Virtualize software, so skills and processes carry across the family. Capacities are IBM’s published maximums for a single system.
| Model | Size and drives | Maximum capacity | Often a good fit when |
|---|---|---|---|
| FlashSystem 5600 | Entry to midrange. 1U, 12 FlashCore Module slots | 633 TB raw, about 2.4 PB effective | A smaller data center, branch site or virtual environment wants NVMe performance and ransomware detection in 1U |
| FlashSystem 7600 | Midrange. 2U, up to 32 FlashCore Modules | 1.6 PB raw, 7.2 PB effective | A data center runs most of its virtual machines and databases on one array |
| FlashSystem 9600 | High end. 2U, up to 32 FlashCore Modules of up to 105.6 TB each | 3.3 PB raw, 11.8 PB effective | Workloads are large, latency-sensitive or business-critical, or several arrays are being consolidated onto one |
| FlashSystem C300 | Capacity tier. 2U, high-capacity FlashCore Modules | 3.3 PB raw | Backup repositories, archives and secondary copies need dense flash capacity more than the lowest latency |
Effective capacity depends on how well your data compresses, so we size from your own data. The entry hybrid FlashSystem 5015 and 5045, which use standard SAS drives instead of FlashCore Modules, still appear on IBM’s product pages; ask us about availability.
What replaced the FlashSystem 5300, 7300 and 9500?
IBM withdrew the previous generation from marketing on June 30, 2026. That means IBM no longer sells new systems; installed systems stay supported until the end-of-service date IBM sets for each model.
| Previous model | Generally available | Withdrawn from marketing | Current successor |
|---|---|---|---|
| FlashSystem 5300 | May 2024 | June 30, 2026 | FlashSystem 5600 |
| FlashSystem 7300 | March 2022 | June 30, 2026 | FlashSystem 7600 |
| FlashSystem 9500 | March 2022 | June 30, 2026 | FlashSystem 9600, which fits in 2U instead of 4U |
Storcom quotes support renewals on installed 5300, 7300, 9500 and older FlashSystem arrays, and prices a move to the current generation next to them.
How Storcom delivers FlashSystem
Discover
A discovery call, then we collect capacity, growth and performance data from your current storage and map your recovery requirements.
Design
We choose the model and capacity, set realistic data reduction expectations, and plan Safeguarded Copy schedules and retention around your recovery objectives.
Implement
We install the system at a current IBM Storage Virtualize code level, migrate data (often by virtualizing the old array and moving volumes in the background), and turn on threat detection alerts and Storage Insights.
Manage
We handle code upgrades, IBM support cases and support renewals, and provide 24×7×365 support by phone, email and ticket.
Why buy FlashSystem through Storcom?
Storcom is an IBM Partner Plus Silver partner, and FlashSystem is the center of our IBM business: new systems, expansions and support renewals. We’ve designed, deployed and supported storage for more than 20 years.
We also sell Dell, HPE and Everpure (formerly Pure Storage) storage. When we recommend FlashSystem, it’s because it fits your workloads and recovery goals, and if it doesn’t fit, we’ll say so.
New systems can be bought with IBM Storage Assurance, which IBM offers on the 5600, 7600 and 9600 for up to eight years with generational refreshes. IBM’s guarantees under the program cover price protection, performance, energy efficiency, non-disruptive migration and 60-second ransomware alerting. We walk you through the terms before you sign.
Array snapshots are one layer of protection, not the whole plan. We pair FlashSystem with Veeam backup, immutable off-site copies and disaster recovery so a single failure, or a single attacker, cannot take out every copy of your data.

Frequently asked questions
What is the newest IBM FlashSystem?
The newest models are the FlashSystem 5600, 7600 and 9600, which IBM announced on February 10, 2026 and made generally available on March 6, 2026. They replace the 5300, 7300 and 9500 and use fifth-generation FlashCore Modules of up to 105.6 TB. IBM also added FlashSystem.ai, an AI assistant for day-to-day administration.
What is IBM Safeguarded Copy?
Safeguarded Copy is a FlashSystem feature that takes immutable point-in-time snapshots on a schedule you set. The copies can’t be changed or deleted until their retention period ends and aren’t accessible to hosts, so ransomware on your servers can’t reach them. You can restore individual volumes or a related group of volumes from a known-good point.
How does IBM FlashSystem detect ransomware?
FlashCore Modules collect statistics from every I/O, and machine learning models look for patterns typical of ransomware encryption. IBM states that FlashCore Module 5 detects ransomware in under a minute, based on IBM’s own testing. Your administrators are alerted, and your most recent Safeguarded Copy gives you a clean point to recover from.
Can FlashSystem work with our existing storage?
In many cases, yes. On supported models, IBM Storage Virtualize can virtualize many existing arrays from IBM and other manufacturers, so you can manage them from one place and move data onto the new system in the background. Storcom checks compatibility for your specific arrays during design.
What is IBM Storage Assurance?
Storage Assurance is IBM’s support and refresh program for the current FlashSystem models. IBM offers it for up to eight years with generational hardware refreshes, and its guarantees include price protection, performance, energy efficiency, non-disruptive migration and 60-second ransomware detection and alerting. Storcom quotes it next to standard support so you can compare.
Does Storcom renew support on FlashSystem we already own?
Yes. Storcom quotes support renewals on installed FlashSystem arrays, including the 5300, 7300 and 9500 that IBM withdrew from marketing on June 30, 2026. If a system is approaching end of support, we show you the cost of extending next to the cost of moving to the current generation.
