Keep patient data available when ransomware or an outage hits
Healthcare IT resilience means keeping EHR, imaging and clinical systems available and recoverable through outages, hardware failure and ransomware. Storcom designs, deploys and manages backup, disaster recovery, storage and security for hospitals, clinics and healthcare service companies, with immutable off-site copies and failover tested against the recovery times your clinicians actually need.

What we hear from healthcare IT teams
Systems that can’t go dark
EHR, scheduling, lab and pharmacy systems run around the clock. A storage failure or a slow restore turns into paper charts, delayed results and diverted patients.
Ransomware aimed at care delivery
Attackers target hospitals and clinics because every hour of downtime hurts patient care. They go after backups first, so a copy an attacker can delete is not a recovery plan.
Imaging that outgrows the array
PACS studies keep getting larger and have to be kept for years. Primary storage fills with images nobody has opened in months, and the refresh budget can’t keep pace.
A lean team carrying HIPAA duties
The HIPAA Security Rule calls for a data backup plan, a disaster recovery plan and procedures to test and revise them. Small IT teams struggle to run those tests and keep the evidence current.
What we run for healthcare IT teams
Managed EDR and firewall
CrowdStrike endpoint protection and managed firewall policies with 24×7×365 support, for teams without a full-time security staff.
Immutable backup
Veeam-based backup with off-site copies that cannot be changed or deleted during the retention window, plus restore validation and reporting.
Disaster recovery as a service
Replication of EHR and clinical servers to a recovery environment, a documented runbook and failover tests on a schedule you agree to.
Storage for imaging growth
Flash storage for active clinical workloads and object storage for older imaging studies and archives, sized to your retention rules.
Microsoft 365 backup
Retention and point-in-time restore for Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams, where much of your administrative work now lives.
Backup or disaster recovery: what does a healthcare organization need?
They solve different problems. Most hospitals and clinics need both, applied to different systems.
| Consideration | Backup | Disaster recovery |
|---|---|---|
| Protects against | Deleted files, corrupted databases, ransomware that encrypts data | Losing a server, a storage array or an entire site |
| How you recover | Restore data to existing or rebuilt systems | Fail over to replicated systems in a recovery environment |
| Recovery speed | Depends on how much data has to be copied back | Set by the recovery time objective the design is built to |
| What to test | Restores of real files, databases and imaging studies | Full failover of clinical applications, then failback |
| Typical candidates | File shares, archives, Microsoft 365, older imaging | EHR, PACS, lab, pharmacy and scheduling systems |
A discovery call is where we start sorting out which of your systems need fast failover and which can wait for a restore.
How an engagement runs
Discover
A discovery call about your clinical and business systems, how they are protected today and what has to stay up.
Design
Recovery objectives set system by system for EHR, PACS, lab and billing, with an architecture and roadmap that fit your budget cycle.
Implement
Procurement, migration and deployment scheduled around clinical hours, with no re-platforming of existing applications.
Manage
Monitoring, restore tests and failover tests with 24×7×365 support. A service delivery manager owns the recovery runbook.
Where HIPAA fits
The HIPAA Security Rule’s contingency plan standard asks covered entities and business associates for a data backup plan, a disaster recovery plan, an emergency mode operation plan and procedures for testing and revising them. Those are the pieces that slip when a team is stretched thin.
We design backup, disaster recovery and security controls that support those requirements, and we hand you the runbooks and test records that show the work was done. Your privacy and security officers still own the risk analysis and the policy decisions. Our job is making the technical side real and testable.
Frequently asked questions
Can ransomware encrypt or delete our backups?
It can if the backups sit on storage an attacker can reach with stolen admin credentials. We design backup with immutable off-site copies that cannot be changed or deleted until the retention period ends, kept separate from your production credentials. Regular restore tests then confirm those copies actually come back.
How does Storcom support HIPAA requirements?
We design and manage backup, disaster recovery and security controls that support the HIPAA Security Rule, including its contingency plan standard. We document runbooks and test results your team can use as evidence. Compliance itself depends on your organization’s own risk analysis, policies and practices, which stay with your privacy and security officers.
How do you handle growing PACS imaging storage?
We separate active studies from the archive. Recent imaging stays on fast primary storage, while older studies move to lower-cost object storage that keeps them retrievable for your full retention period. We size both tiers from your actual growth.
How often should we test disaster recovery?
At least once a year, and again after any major change such as an EHR upgrade or a storage refresh. Under our Managed Recovery Program, a service delivery manager runs the tests with your team, updates the runbook and reports on what was recovered and how long it took.
Do you work with clinics and healthcare service companies, not just hospitals?
Yes. Storcom works with organizations of every size. Multi-site practices and healthcare service companies are a good fit, because they carry the same uptime and data protection duties as a hospital with far fewer people.
