Managed services and private cloud for a healthcare company
A national healthcare solutions company with a small staff relied on Storcom to manage its full stack in a downtown Chicago data center. When outages in the office building caused downtime, Storcom built dedicated private cloud hardware in its suburban data center, designed to support HIPAA requirements, and moved disaster recovery to the old downtown site.

The challenge
With a limited staff, the company wanted third-party specialists to manage its critical infrastructure in downtown Chicago. Storcom provided ongoing managed services for the entire application stack, from hardware and hypervisor through the Windows and Linux operating systems.
The company also used Storcom’s DR and business continuity facility in Chicago’s western suburbs.
Downtime became unavoidable because the data center sat in an office environment prone to outages. The company needed to move to a purpose-built data center designed for high availability.
What Storcom did
We architected a new solution on dedicated hardware in Storcom’s data center to serve as the company’s private cloud. HIPAA regulations meant the company needed its own dedicated infrastructure.
We then began migrating production from downtown Chicago to Storcom’s data center in the Chicago suburbs, and moved disaster recovery to the company’s former downtown data center.
Technology: VMware vSphere, replication software, Veeam Backup & Replication and Dell PowerEdge blade servers.
The outcome
- More uptime and reliability than the office-based data center provided.
- Flexibility to use Storcom’s shared infrastructure for projects the company lacks in-house infrastructure to run.
